Must Read: Pigeons, Humans and Religion

by admin

In an ancient temple, a number of pigeons lived happily on roof top.

When the renovation of the temple began for the annual temple feast the pigeons relocated themselves to a Church nearby.

The existing pigeons in the Church accommodated the new comers very well.

Christmas was nearing and the Church was given a facelift, All the pigeons had to move out and look for another place.

They were fortunate to find a place in a Mosque nearby, The pigeons in the Mosque welcomed them happily.

It was Ramadan time and the Mosque was repainted, All the pigeons now came to the same ancient temple.

One day the pigeons on top found some communal clashes below in a market square.

The baby pigeon asked the mother pigeon
“Who are these people ?

The mother replied; they are “Human beings”.

The baby asked,
But why are they fighting with each other…?

The mother said “These human beings going to temple are called ‘Hindus’ and the people going to Church are called ‘Christians’ and the people going to Mosque are called ‘Muslims’.

The Baby pigeon asked, “Why is it so? When we were in the Temple we were called Pigeons, when we were in the church we were called Pigeons and when we were in the Mosque, we were called Pigeons. Similarly they should be called just
‘Human beings’ wherever they go”?

The mother Pigeon said,
‘You and me and our Pigeon friends have experienced God and that’s why we are living here in a highly elevated place peacefully.

These people are yet to experience God.

Hence they are living below us and fighting and killing each other.

Let’s spread love and stop hatred in the name of religion.

Life Lessons From The Movie- Up

by admin

Well, honestly I hadn’t watched the movie Up until I was supposed to write this article about it. Now, I’m just glad I did and wish I had watched it much earlier.

It’s a Disney and Pixar movie but not your typical fairy tale ones. Up is the story of two people, Ellie and Carle, whose love for adventure bonds them together. After Ellie’s death, Carle decides to take on their long-pending dream to Paradise Falls along with Russell, a kid who also is passionate about adventure.

Personally I’m not a big fan of animation movies and hence didn’t have much expectation from this one as well. But when I watched it, I was very pleasantly surprised. The movie offers much insight into the ways of life and I could have never guessed that from the posters or the trailer even.

Here are few things that I have learned from the movie Up. You too can take a lesson or two.

Adventure is out there!

Well, this has been repeated quite a number of times in the movie by different people. Adventure, really is out there.

Life is way too short to fulfil the many dreams that we see. Something or the other does get missed out on. But the best we can do is to at least start ticking them off our bucket list. After all, something is indeed better than nothing.

So all you guys, just break the monotonous routine of your mechanical lives and start experiencing the many feats that nature has in store. The world is a beautiful and mysterious place. Go explore it! ‘Adventure is out there. Yay!’

It’s never too late

“You’re never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.”- C.S Lewis

Age is but a number. Life might and will stall you in making your dreams come true. But you can’t give up. Be passionate and chase them persistently.

In the movie, we see Carle and Ellie had to break into their funds often which they had saved for their long-impending adventure to Paradise Falls, owing to different adversities of life. But even after Ellie’s death, at 78, Carle finally finds a way to make their dream take off.

Animals are indeed our best companion

“My name is Dug. I have just met you, and I love you.”- said Dug and licked Carle’s face excitedly.

Dug is a dog on Paradise Falls who can speak! Yes, you read that right. He happily accompanies Carle and Russell on their journey to land their house on Paradise Falls, even though an irritated Mr Frederickson tries to cleverly get him off his back, but to no avail.

Pets can be our best friends and they would never abandon us even if we do them. A little affection is what they need and you have a devotee for life. So if you already have pets, treat them good. In case you don’t, its time you get yourself one and see a whole new meaning to life.

Life is all about the next step

After Carle and Ellie got married, they had a very happy life together until they lost their child. Instead of grieving forever, they moved on to re-discover their passion for adventure which had united them in the first place. Due to certain misfortunes they were unable to begin their journey to Paradise Falls and Ellie succumbs to a disease. But Carle sets out to fulfil Ellie’s dream along with Russell and in the process almost loses his house that he had held so close to in memory of Ellie. In anger he refuses to help Russell and Dug.

Later when he opens Ellie’s adventure book again, he sees that Ellie had found her greatest adventure in her life with Carle and she died happily without any regrets. This liberates Carle from the feeling that he had failed his love. He then happily agrees to help Russell, Dug and Kevin.

“It happens to everyone as they grow up. You find out who you are and what you want, and then you realize that people you’ve known forever don’t see things the way you do. So you keep the wonderful memories, but find yourself moving on.”– Nicholas Sparks

The greatest adventure of all is life itself

Death is easy. Life is hard. It’s a struggle. Struggle to win, to come first, to fulfil our parent’s ambitions, to chase our own goals etc. And in all this mess, we forget the essence of life, to live!

Practicality overrules the spiritual satisfaction

Life is a journey and like they say, the journey is more important than the destination, let’s make each day count so that our lives are an inspiration to people who are part of it as well as the ones watching you.

“The biggest adventure you can ever take is to live the life of your dreams.”- Oprah Winfrey

Life is also about valuing relationships and people

Disney has shown the best love story in about 4.30 minutes. Right from Carle and Ellie’s marriage to Ellie’s death, life has been a pleasant ride for these two love birds. We see that they give up their dream of adventure to be with each other, to share a happy life, take care of one another and grow old together.

So while we are all very busy in our lives, every once in a while, make it a priority to spend time with people who truly matters to you, let them know that you love them very much and hold on to them. If you make them a part of your life in every aspect, you wouldn’t have to look outside for adventure.

Just like Ellie wrote to Carle, “Thanks for the adventure. Now go have a new one.” And so he did, forging new relationships with Russell and Dug.

Up is a mini-adventure in itself. You surely must have watched it several times but probably never thought about it this way. Well, now that you have read this, go watch the movie again with this knowledge and see how things get a different meaning altogether.

Enjoy life. Cheers!

Affirmations: 15 New Beliefs To Bring Joy To Your Life

by admin

While surfing the Internet randomly for some motivational readings, I got introduced to Louise Hay. She caught my attention with her wonderful visual appeal and then I started exploring more about her. I fell in love with her affirmative videos and write ups. The very next day I went to a store to buy one of her publications, “You can Heal your Life”… I started reading it…

I was experiencing a similar phase of mental turmoil, unhappiness and physical pain which I believe medicines could never cure neither could they bring back joy in my life. While reading the book I realized that the root of my unhappiness and agony was my mind- my thoughts. The book further taught me that if I could change the way I think and perceive things, my life would be easier, much happier and free from infliction. Simply put, I can heal myself.

From then onwards I started believing in the power of positive affirmations and that our brain is like a magnet which has the ability to attract all the goodness that the Universe bestows only when we charge it with positive energy.

Sharing with you all the new beliefs that re instilled joy in my life.

  1. I am so lucky and blessed

LIFE LESSONS: 14 Powerful Short Stories That Will Make Your Day

by admin

This is something I received in my WhatsApp yesterday and I must say I was touched… The message is worth sharing. Have a look at the short stories; I am sure they will make your day.

Today, when I slipped on the wet tile floor a boy in a wheelchair caught me before I slammed my head on the ground.  He said, “Believe it or not, that’s almost exactly how I injured my back 3 years ago .

Today, father told me, “Just go for it and give it a try!  You don’t have to be a professional to build a successful product.  Amateurs started Google and Apple.  Professionals built the Titanic

Today, I asked my mentor – a very successful business man in his 70’s – what his top 3 tips are for success.  He smiled and said, “Read something no one else is reading, think something no one else is thinking, and do something no one else is doing.

Today, I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper I’m working on for my Psychology class.  When I asked her to define success in her own words, she said, “Success is when you look back at your life and the memories make you smile.

I am blind by birth. When I was 8 years old, I wanted to play baseball. I asked my father- “Dad, can I play baseball?” He said “You’ll never know until you try.” When I was a teenager, I asked him, – “Dad Can I become a surgeon?”. He replied “Son, you’ll never know until you try.” Today I am a Surgeon, just because I tried!

Today, after a 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug.  When I tensed up, she realized I didn’t recognize her.  She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said, “On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Center.”

Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying.  And just before he died, he licked the tears off my face.

Today at 7AM, I woke up feeling ill, but decided I needed the money, so I went into work. At 3PM I got laid off. On my drive home I got a flat tire. When I went into the trunk for the spare, it was flat too. A man in a BMW pulled over, gave me a ride, we chatted, and then he offered me a job.  I start tomorrow.

Today, as my father, three brothers, and two sisters stood around my mother’s hospital bed, my mother uttered her last coherent words before she died. She simply said, “I feel so loved right now. We should have gotten together like this more often.”

Today, I kissed my dad on the forehead as he passed away in a small hospital bed.  About 5 seconds after he passed, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy.

Today, in the cutest voice, my 8-year-old daughter asked me to start recycling. I chuckled and asked, “Why?” She replied, “So you can help me save the planet.”  I chuckled again and asked, “And why do you want to save the planet?” “Because that’s where I keep all my stuff,” she said.

12. JOY

Today, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter’s antics, I suddenly realized that I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again.

Today, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me.  He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, “I hope you feel better soon.”.

Today, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe.  He said he hadn’t eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy.  Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was eating.  The first thing the man said was, “We can share it.”
