· To burn the curiosity
As children grow into teenagers, there are lots of changes happening in their body, which gives rise to the curiosity among them. They also develop the feeling of being aroused and become curious about the opposite gender’s body. This can lead to touching opposite gender inappropriately or searching for answers online or among friends which introduces them with porn. To avoid all of these, they must be informed in the appropriate age about sex, arousal, periods, erection etc. This burns their curiosity and refrains them from engaging in any wrong activities.
· To avoid misinformation
Teenagers can be misinformed from their friends or movies, which makes them think stupid things like kissing makes one pregnant or touching opposite gender makes you pregnant etc. Misinformation can be more harmful than one thinks. Often parents, misinform their children about touching and kissing to keep them away from sexual activities which might, later on, affect their lives. Proper sex education is necessary both in school and at home.
· To let them know the importance of ‘No’
Sex education also teaches the importance of consent. Consent of both parties is required to have sex, which must be taught to teenagers. They must know the importance of ‘No means No’. This will help avoid rapes to a great extent.
· To differentiate between good touch and bad touch
The difference between good touch and bad touch should be in fact taught ata very young age because many young girls and boys are molested and abused when they were as young as 7-8 years old. When children know the difference between both they won’t let these things happen to them or they will at least inform their parents. Many children don’t complain because they don’t know whether it is wrong or right.
· To help them know the positives and negatives of sex
Many teenagers engage in sexual activity just as a part of curiosity. Sex education will help them know about the advantages and disadvantages of having sex. It will also help them know the right age of having sex. This will help them decide the right time and the right person. Sex education also teaches the importance of privacy while having sex and to avoid ending up being on an MMS.
· To avoid teen pregnancies
Most important thing is to let them know the importance of contraception while having sex. It not only protects from unwanted pregnancies but also from STDs. Teen pregnancies are a big issue, especially in America. Teenagers should be taught the drawbacks of teen pregnancy so that they think twice beforeindulging in unprotected sex.
