Healthy Relationships
Teenagers should be trained to anticipate certain qualities in healthy partnerships. They comprise:
1. Mutual Respect entails appreciating the other person for who they are and appreciating their boundaries.
2.Trust. Partners should have faith in one another and be willing to overlook little issues.
3.Honesty. Honesty fosters interpersonal growth and trust.
4.Compromise. Each partner does not always get their way in a romantic relationship. Each person should be aware of and open to other people’s points of view.
5.Individuality. Neither spouse should have to compromise who they are, and neither spouse’s identity should be predicated on that of the other. Everyone should keep doing the activities they enjoy and seeing their friends. Each should encourage his or her partner’s desire to develop new interests or socialize with new people.
Relations That Aren’t Healthy
Negative traits like disrespect and control are indicators of unhealthy partnerships. Before problematic relationships worsen, it’s critical for young people to be able to spot their warning signals. Unhealthy relationships can have a number of traits.
1. Control. Making all the decisions and dictating what to do, what to dress, and who to spend time with, one dating partner controls the other. Unreasonable jealousy is present, and he or she may also be trying to keep the other spouse away from friends and relatives.
2.Hostility. The other dating partner is agitated or provoked by one of the partners in a relationship. In order to avoid upsetting the other, one dating partner may change their conduct as a result of this.
3.Dishonesty. One of the relationship partners misleads or withholds facts from the other. Theft occurs between dating partners.
4.Disrespect. The other dating partner is made fun of for their interests and beliefs, or something that belongs to them is destroyed.
5.Dependence. One of the relationship partners believes they “cannot live without” the other. If the relationship ends, he or she can make extreme threats.
