While growing up, we always that one person who is a hero to us, and we adore them from our hearts. Mostly it is one of your parents, siblings, cousins, uncle or aunt. Some of us just try to enact them for childish and foolish reasons but some of us try to be become like them, realising that their actions are helping you improve yourself. These people in our life who influence us positively are called role models and they may change as we and our needs keep changing. Hence having a role model is significant and more importantly, having a good role model is even more important for our betterment and positive growth. The reasons for the same are: –
- Dealing with failure – We all face adversity in our lives. Everyone has to go through failure. Having a role model can help you look up to them, and understand their ways to cope up with failure. The successful people we look up to have had their share of obstacles and troubles to get to where they are now.
- Understand your role models success – There is a major reason to why you consider that person to be your role model. He/She may be a national level champion in a sport or a VIP in a Multi-National Corporation. Analyse their road to success and why exactly they are important to be in your life.
- Improving yourself – One of the things you will realise is that you are not and can never be exactly like your role model. Their talents and special skills may be extraordinary. But that only means you have your own talents to work on too. Focus on being the best version of yourself and honing your skills.
- An immense source of inspiration – Every time you face an obstacle you will think about your role model and his road to success. You can also try to compete with your role model to motivate yourself further. The urge to be like or even be better than your role is itself a huge source to push you forward every day.
- Aiming higher – There may be an instance where you will notice that your role model has still not able to achieve something in particular, even after years of perseverance. E.g. your father may still not be able to grab that promotion even after years of struggling and hard work. Such events will always make you want that piece of the success that your role model wasn’t able to achieve.
Copying every action and following every way as your role model is good but one must not forget to set a limit. Sometimes hanging on to the negative habits of the person you look up to can torpedo your success. You have to realize that they are only doing those things because they are much older and successful than you. Get yourself to their level, you too are free to live their lifestyle.
