NDA stands for National Defence Academy. It is the academy that provides joint defense service training. The written exams for NDA are conducted twice every year by the UPSC and is regarded as one of the toughest exams. Once selected the candidates join the NDA academy for training. The NDA is located at Pune in the state of Maharashtra and is the first academy in the world including all the three services. The foundation stone was laid by the first Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. At the National Defence Academy, the cadets of the three services including the Indian Army, Indian Navy as well as the Indian Air Force train simultaneously before they head out for further pre-commission training. NDA is one of the challenging careers which involves a lot of roles and responsibilities. It is chosen as a career option by people who wish to serve the nation. NDA offers job security, respect, pension benefits, high remuneration, and various benefits.
Cadets who join the NDA after appearing in their 10+2 exams are given academic training for the period of three years attaining a graduate degree in either BA, BSc, or BCs of the Jawaharlal University. NDA focuses on character building, leadership qualities, physical and mental robustness of the cadets. The NDA is all about learning to be disciplined and striving to improve oneself. Under Air Force training, cadets are given basic military aviation training with ground training as well as flying training.
Under army training, cadets are imparted a mix of outdoor as well as indoor coaching. Outdoor training is conducted out in the hilly and wooded areas within close proximity to the campus. While theoretical and practical simulated training is provided in indoor training. Under Army training, the focus is laid on Navigation, Seamanship, and Communication.
