The Nobel Peace Prize was founded by the will of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel. Alfred Nobel was active in the peace movement and exhibited a strong interest in social issues. Bertha von Suttner, a strong force in the international peace movement in Europe who was later given the Nobel Peace Prize, impacted his peace beliefs. Nobel mentioned peace as the fifth and final reward area in his will. The Norwegian Parliament elects a committee to award the Nobel Peace Prize.

1) Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 “for her work for bringing help to suffering humanity”. Mother Teresa resolved to assist the destitute after arriving in India. She and her helpers created houses for orphans, nursing homes for lepers, and hospices for the chronically ill after creating Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta. Her organisation helped people all around the world.
2) Kailash Satyarthi
Following in the footsteps of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian activist has been striving to eradicate child labour, exploitation, and encourage children to attend school in order to establish a more peaceful world. He won the Peace Nobel Prize in 2014 along with Malala Yousafzai.
3) Malala Yousafzai
According to Economic time’s reports, “For their struggle against the oppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education,” Malala Yousafzai earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 along with Kailash Satyarthi.
4) Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 “for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new Democratic South Africa”.
5) The 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso)
His Holiness was given the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989 “for advocating peaceful solutions based on tolerance and mutual respect in order to preserve his people’s historical and cultural legacy.”
