“When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.” Says Jimi Hendrix. Global peace or World peace is a notion that believes in a place where all the beings of all the kinds from all the nations live in harmony without any wars or competition. After the two great World Wars that included various developed nations, the United Nations was formed in a hope to achieve peace among all nations. Established in 1945 the UN has been successful in avoiding a world war until today. But we as humans are still miles away from attaining total global peace.
Few ways we can improve or help mankind’s journey to find peace are: –
Equality in gender – The more a nation suffers from gender inequality the more are the problems and violent disagreement. Moreover, women are not driven by aggression and take every decision with at least little compassion in their hearts. In contrast, when women participate in peaceful affairs, peace is more likely achieved.
Tackle climate change – Ecological stress is seen to have formed by an imbalance in nature and led to disputes over natural resources like water, land especially in East Africa. For all its limitations, the UN climate agreement is proof that the world can handle and alleviate crises by unity, instead of fighting. A functioning deal that provides safety to nature and the environment is an essential step towards peace.
Regulations on weapons sale – Increasing military power by inventing advanced and dangerous weapons in only rising tensions between all nations. The race to become the most powerful nation in terms of weapon is what is disturbing the peace. Companies that manufacture arms and weapons must be held responsible if their products fall into wrong hands or become the reason behind terrorism. We can establish a rule that makes it illegal to possess a nuclear weapon or any other weapon capable of mass destruction.
Start at home – It doesn’t matter whether you are a great leader or just a normal citizen. It is one thing to blame the world leaders for all the chaos and being the same ourselves. How do you solve a conflict? By dialogue or aggression? Every problem you or all the individuals solve in a non-violent way is a step forward for world peace. Use strong confident statements to argue about something. We have the power to lit the match of peace and slowly the fire will spread.
