Meditation can be beneficial to people of different backgrounds, but determining how much time you should spend meditating each day can be difficult. Starting with a little amount of time and working your way up is an excellent idea. If you don’t receive the results you want right away, starting slowly will assist you to avoid becoming frustrated or discouraged.
Begin with small sessions and work your way up once you’ve gotten used to meditating. When you first begin, it can be tempting to want to meditate for hours at a time, but it is much preferable to practise consistently with shorter sessions than to try to push yourself too hard at first. After a meditation session, you should always feel more aware of yourself, perhaps even invigorated and calm, rather than depleted or fatigued.
Keep in mind that this is a lifetime endeavour. It will take some time for the mind and body to adjust to the practice of meditation, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t see immediate results. This is rather normal, so don’t get disheartened if it takes a while to see the effects.
According to a 2018 study published in Behavioural Brain Research, meditating for 13 minutes a day for eight weeks resulted in improved attention, working memory, recognition memory, and state anxiety. Participants who meditated for eight weeks showed more significant results than those who meditated for four weeks, according to the study.
Although it is not an exact science, the consensus appears to be that you should meditate for at least 10 minutes every day to observe the advantages. However, because everyone’s body reacts differently, it’s crucial to try longer meditation sessions if 10 minutes doesn’t seem to be working for you.
Beginners should begin by meditating for at least five minutes each day. Starting with just five minutes will allow you to adjust. It will also assist you in committing to your meditation practice without placing undue stress on you, making meditation more approachable to novices.
If you’re wondering if 10 minutes of meditation will suffice, it depends on your aim and meditation style. If you’re a newbie who wants to relieve stress, 10 minutes should suffice. If you want to focus on serenity and concentration, though, up to 30 minutes may be preferable because you’ll have time for some light stretches and breathing methods. Whether you meditate for 10 minutes or 30 minutes, make it a habit to do so every day. This will help train your mind to be more attentive throughout the day.
