How to increase concentration

In the digital age, we are susceptible to distraction. We need to cope with a growing number of different types of information since it is everywhere. It occupies a lot of our time and attention.

One of the diseases of our day is the inability to focus on the work at hand; everyone wants to learn how to focus more effectively and how to concentrate. Yet, it is a problem that merits attention due to the advantages of enhancing concentration and focus.

Ways to improve your concentration

Eliminate distractions. As we are constantly bombarded with information, how can we focus better? Establish a practice to block time in your day to complete a certain work or activity. Ask to be left alone or move to a location where others are less likely to bother you during this time, such as a library, a coffee shop, or a private room.

Social media and other applications should be closed, alerts should be turned off, and your phone should be kept out of sight in a bag or backpack. Researchers discovered that having the phone out of sight—as opposed to merely being switched off—significantly improved cognitive performance, as reported in HBR. Your main priority is to finish the tasks at hand. You may aid yourself by turning off both mental and external distractions.

Limit your multitasking. We feel more productive when we try to do several tasks at once. Moreover, it promotes a lack of attention, poor concentration, and decreased productivity. Burnout can result from decreased productivity. Multitasking includes replying to emails while listening to a podcast and making phone calls while preparing a report. Such multitasking not only impairs your capacity to concentrate but also lowers the caliber of your job.

Exercise meditation and awareness. Focus may be increased, and well-being and mental fitness can be strengthened by meditation or mindfulness exercises. Our entire body relaxes, and our brain gets calmer during meditation. We concentrate on our breath to avoid being sidetracked by our thoughts during the procedure. Through practice, we may develop the ability to use our breath to refocus our attention on a job so that it can be completed effectively, even if interrupted.

Embrace the outdoors. According to research, even the presence of plants in an office may improve air quality, boost productivity, and improve worker happiness. Making time to enjoy your garden or go for a stroll in the park might improve your focus and make you feel more rejuvenated.
