Stress has always been a part of every individual’s life. Nobody likes being stressed out. There are certain ways through which a person can build a stress-free environment for herself/himself. In this extract, we shall have a look at one such way called “self-care” which will help us live a stress-free life.
What is self-care? Self-care is nothing but looking after oneself or giving importance to one’s existence, being and health. Similar to the way we prioritise the other things in our life from our jobs to our savings etc. In this rat race of being successful and wanting to be at the top, often we as humans tend to forget to take care of our body, mind and health. We tend to ignore our physical and mental well being and the result is when we get stricken by stress we tend to blame the universe and our faith for falling prey to such a situation (stress).
Basically, physical and mental well being is, our biological need is an approximate 8 hours of sleep, but do we look towards getting at least that much sleep for our brain to work freshly and calmly the next day? No, we don’t. We ignore our sleep schedules and prioritize other things over them.
So to stay stress-free, we should get a good amount of sleep. Do we exercise? The answer again might be yes and no for a few. But we must do it, as exercise helps proper blood circulation and the release of dopamine during exercise sessions keeps us stress-free.
We also tend to overlook most of our mental needs. We tend to ignore the slight changes that might occur in our system due to anxiety, depression or other psychological disorders. We fear approaching a therapist or might blame our working schedule for not approaching one. Like self-care, there are many such things that we might tend to ignore in our way and then blame for not living a desired peaceful life. So to live a happy, healthy and stress-free life, we must practice self-care.
