In general, when someone hurts us, we immediately form a visual image of that individual. You create a visual image of the type of person he or she is, i.e., you judge the individual based on your perception of the hurt. “She is mean, he is so arrogant, insensitive, etc.” and when you talk to other people, they may add to your increasing prejudice.
However, what you perceive or believe may not necessarily be the case. We react to what we believe, which may or may not be true. Meaning, there’s a chance you were mistaken or misunderstood, and as a result, you were fast to judgment.
Assuming you were correct to be offended, forgiveness is the only way to heal our wounds. Forgiveness occurs when we let go of the dreadful image we have of the person who has wronged us.
Instead of holding on to the bad image of them and judging them for their mistakes, try to understand their perspective and look at them like humans who make mistakes. When you do this, you automatically look at them with a new set of eyes and see them for the person they really are, instead of the perceived version of them that you created in your mind.
This helps one to feel happier and peaceful as it helps to reduce the unwanted stress and pain that was caused by holding on to the anger towards them.
When we forgive, we feel emotionally happier. Thus, in turn, improves our mental well-being. That is why it is said, “peace can be found by forgiving not judging.”
