“You don’t need to fix your past, to fix your future,” the very first impression one would have after reading this quote is that it is very logical and straightforward, a kind of quote that strikes in the face. We tend to ruin so many things from our present aspects while focusing too much on the past and creating hurdles for our future that might approach sooner. We tend to remain inclined to certain happenings from our past, be it positive or negative. It is ok to just have a glimpse of or a flashback of your past once in a blue moon. But don’t make your past an obsession. In this extract, we shall have a clearer understanding of the same.
When we obsess over something we tend to not move away from it. That “particular aspect” becomes the dominant thought in our head and we keep on thinking about it endlessly on how we could have made certain things work better, etc. But if we think logically, overthinking or getting obsessed over certain things from the past, is it helping us to be the best? No, it isn’t.
We are just becoming slaves to our past. We should realise that things happen for a purpose and what might have happened in the past might have happened for a reason. We are humans, we aren’t cyborgs, we are imperfect, we are bound to make mistakes.
We can’t change what our past has offered us. We can do one thing, and that is to learn from our past mistakes, to forgive ourselves, others and let go of them. Not just sit and waste our time in fixing it, in this way we can make our future a happy place to live.
