The absence of violence or war in a state or country means peace, and the development is a result of the peaceful setting or environment.

The development or prosperity of a country is possible only in a peaceful environment. With war and violence, no development of the country or state will take place. When there is economic progress, it works towards building peace in the nation, and these two form a vicious cycle.

It is deemed that when countries are lacking behind in development and face a shortage in economic activities, they tend to resort to conflicts or violence. Global peace is measured by the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) with the Global Peace Index.

According to IEP’s reports of 2018, the per capita growth had been three times higher in the peaceful countries over the past 70 years as compared to the unpeaceful countries.

The critics have pointed out that the reason for the low levels of development in the conflict-prone countries might be due to the colonial legacy, inequality, low human development, geographical and other factors.

Although these factors are essential in contributing to development, peace is also an important factor for economic development.

A country that lives in constant fear of violence and destruction can never have well-functioning hospitals, schools, or other businesses. Peace creates a stable environment where it clears the path for the businesses to flourish and the economic development and growth to be on the rise.
