Elite is a Spanish thriller series that received a lot of attention when it first came out in 2018. Elite, created by Carlos Montero and Dario Madrona, focuses mostly on elite and adolescent society, depicting a dazzling yet sinister side of the opulent realms.
The show is described by Netflix as “when three working-class teenagers enter in an exclusive private school in Spain, Las Encinas, through a scholarship, the confrontation between them and the wealthier kids leads to a murder,” but it is so much more. Here are 5 reasons why Elite is the perfect binge-worthy series if you haven’t seen it yet!
There are numerous series that deal with teenaged lives and the follies that they frequently encounter. So, what’s the big deal about Elite? Excessive partying, a gang of teenagers, booze, and drugs were all well-represented in the materialistic culture. The show was able to highlight and inform us about the harm that drugs, drug dealing, and drinking can cause to people of all ages, including teenagers and adults.
There are many series that feature LGBT characters, but Elite takes it to the next level. Elite is full of queer representation that we need on film now, with lesbian mothers and children figuring out and coming to grips with their sexuality. Regardless of how dark the program becomes, these good friendships of acceptance will warm your heart and give you hope.
Another fantastic aspect of Elite is the incredible female leads who are fearless in the face of adversity. Carla, Lu, and Nadia were all complete badasses. Even in the face of peer pressure and societal friction, Nadia did not abandon her religious principles. Lu does fall apart at times, but in the end, she learns to stand on her own two feet and not rely on a man for happiness. Carla and Rebecca were both boss ladies from the start, and they only got stronger as time went on. These girls, their growing friendship and support, and their character arc were all fantastic!
Shows with such a strong musical score are worth keeping. Elite’s OST is fantastic, with music ranging from lively party tunes to funky and somber numbers. Whatever setting you’re in, there’s a suitable song to accompany it. These songs, which range from English to Spanish, will stay in your head long after you’ve finished viewing the series!
An element that most multi-season shows lack is the authors’ tendency to focus more on story development while disregarding character development. The character growth in Elite, on the other hand, was fantastic. When you binge-watch the show, you’ll see how all of the characters develop over their high school years.
