Let us first understand what social norms mean: In a given group, community, or culture, “a social norm” is the expected behavior that a person is expected to follow.
Now here is why social norms are meant to be broken, to be successful in life, you must step outside of your comfort zone. If you remain a loner, you will never be able to achieve your goals (unless you want to be a recluse, of course). You might be concerned that you’ll stand out in public, that you’re not exactly “average,” but that’s exactly what’s supposed to happen. You’re designed to stand out, and cultural standards are meant to be disrupted in order for growth to occur.
Progress needs change, and change means upsetting the current system. You should never just go along with social conventions because you think it’s what you’re supposed to do. You should interrogate them. It’s okay to want to rebel against social standards even if they don’t affect you. Your disobedience could be as simple as wearing mismatched clothes or as complex as publicizing your originality on a blog or podcast. Social transformation occurs when we question the norms rather than accepting them for what they are.
You must be loyal to yourself and try not to be influenced by what others are doing, thinking, or saying. Because people will realize how different you are. They might make a remark, laugh, or interrogate you. They could think you’re crazy for going against the grain.
Don’t let the outside world tell you that the way you want to spend your life is wrong.
