Big B’s ‘Baghban’ released in 2003 is an Indian drama film directed by Ravi Chopra. It received much fame as it brought forth the social issue of the mistreatment of elderly parents by their children.
The movie is a tale of an elderly couple, Raj (Amitabh Bachchan) and Pooja (Hema Malini) who had sacrificed and fulfilled all the needs of their four sons. After retirement, when Raj meets his sons, they turn out to be selfish and mistreat him and his wife.
Even though it revolves around elderly mistreatment, there are many reasons why this movie is love and has brought a smile to many faces.
- The duo, Amitabh Bachchan and Hema Malini had wonderfully played their roles. When they were separated by their selfish children after their retirement, the bond they shared and how it deepened considerably was impeccable. It tugged the hearts of many fans.
- One of the heart-warming songs, ‘Main yaha tu waha’ that Amitabh Bachchan sang for his onscreen wife Hema Malini on the phone was a heartfelt shot.
- The movie gave a wonderful message to the viewers through the short role of Salman Khan. He was adopted by the onscreen duo and even though he wasn’t blood-related, he treated them with much respect and love. It shows how your own blood may disown you and the one you sheltered would act as your true blood.
- Holi without Amitabh Bachchan’s iconic songs is always dry. He gave us the ‘Holi khele Raghuveera’ song through Baghban to multiply our happiness during holi after his ‘Rang barse’ from Silsila (1981).
