Since forever we have been told about the importance of speaking truth which includes your true thoughts, feelings, and perceptions. Many people are always striving towards healing and overcoming their childhood wounds or situations that caused them shame and disrespect. They tend to believe that something is wrong with them and hence put others’ feelings in front of theirs.
They struggle through the years by letting what they want slide just to respond with what others need from them. They are supposed to feel relieved when they express their true feelings and needs as a way of honoring their own experiences. Speaking the truth is not only refreshing but also empowering. It is a way of speaking our mind out, without feeling responsible for others.
However, it becomes dangerous when self-expression is dominant or intoxicating that it starts affecting others and we fail to recognize it. You can learn to preserve your interpersonal trust when you gain a hold overexpressing your feelings and knowing yourself. You learn to delve deeper into yourself and observe genuine feelings. You take a pause to decide whether it’s right to say what you feel and how to express it.
When you prioritize your feelings and give them time to settle down instead of acting them out, you buy time to react with sensitivity and not impulsively. The tolerance for emotional discomfort increases when you preserve trust by speaking the truth.
Being honest about what you feel would definitely help you heal.
