Reasons Why You Should Stop Pretending Someone You Are Not

You’re virtually surely going to fail.

It’s difficult to force oneself to be someone you’re not wired to be. Sometimes in life, we are forced to adjust to conditions that compel us to be someone we are not. In times of crisis, we discover enough reason and drive to transform ourselves into the people required to complete the task. However, this type of metamorphosis is usually not long-term. It’s conceivable to be someone you’re not meant to be, but the options for failure are limitless.

If you achieve, you will undoubtedly be dissatisfied.

Pushing any one personality attribute beyond its natural bounds is uncomfortable because we have fairly natural levels of each personality trait. By forcing ourselves to think in ways we don’t usually think, act in ways we don’t usually act, and do things we don’t usually do, we’re building tension. All of this may be great as long as you stay active and too busy to relax… But if you do, your entire world might come crumbling down around you.

If you keep pretending to be someone you’re not, you’ll inevitably crash and burn.

You might be able to push yourself to your limits for years, if not decades. Nonetheless, one day, even if it is your last, you will realise that you have wasted far too much time pretending to be someone you aren’t. Such a significant waste of time can push you over the edge.

To make matters worst, before you crash and burn, you’ll most likely keep pushing yourself in the wrong direction, ensuring maximum pain before you crumble.

It’s similar to drinking or using narcotics in that the more you consume, the worse you feel… and the worse you feel, the more you consume. Then one day you glance in the mirror and feel sick to your stomach. The more you were able to push yourself, the more painful the return to reality was.

You will have done irreparable harm to your mind, body, relationships, and entire life by the time you accept defeat.

In a person’s 20s or 30s, when the mind is most prone to change, such drastic alterations in personality features are common. This suggests that the life we built before this turning moment was one that we didn’t enjoy or appreciate. We change our characteristics because we wish to make a difference in our lives. Sometimes, in our haste to bring about change, we lose sight of all the wonderful aspects of our previous lives.
