We are constantly seeking approval from our friends and family, hoping that people would think our idea is fantastic and will back us up! We may find ourselves pondering and fretting over a variety of issues “Will they come to an understanding? What are their words going to be?”
But here’s the thing: it’s all irrelevant. It doesn’t matter what other people think of you; all that matters is how you feel about yourself. It’s YOU who requires your approval!
A relentless search for approval steals our happiness. Allowing others to have that kind of control over you and your emotional life is not a good idea. You are practically turning up control of your happiness to others if you are continually seeking their approval. It isn’t their responsibility to do so.
It’s liberating to be free of the desire for approval. You are no longer surrounded by artificial constraints that dictate how you should spend your life. It’s exhausting to consider what other people think of you and to figure out how to get the most positive answers from them. Consider how much time and energy you’d save if you focused solely on gratifying yourself.
Being comfortable with oneself is a significant element of confidence. When you allow others’ opinions to define you, it’s difficult to feel comfortable with yourself. You are more likely to feel better if you cease seeking approval. It’s nice to be self-assured and comfortable in your own skin. The route to true happiness begins with becoming self-assured rather than self-obsessed.
