Asthma is a condition that causes problems in airways and it can inflate your airways, as well as create thick mucus. This can cause breathing problems, resulting in choking, whistling (wheezing) on exhalation, and breathlessness. For other people, asthma is a mild annoyance. For many others, it is a serious problem that hinders them from going about their daily lives and may even result in a life-threatening asthma attack.
Although asthma cannot be cured, it can be managed with medication. Because asthma symptoms and signs can change over time, working with your physician to track your symptoms and modify your medication as needed is essential.
Changes that occur immediately now or at the start of an asthma episode are associated with early warning symptoms. These symptoms usually develop before the more well-known asthma symptoms and are the first indications that your asthma is becoming severe.
In overall, these symptoms are not serious enough to prevent you from carrying on with your usual routine. However, by identifying these indicators, you can either stop or avoid an asthma attack from worsening.
The following are early warning indicators of an asthma attack:
1. Coughing a lot, particularly at night
2. When trying to exercise, you may experience difficulty breathing or breathlessness, as well as a feeling of exhaustion or weakness.
3. After workout, gasping for breath or chest tightness
4. Lung capacity declines or varies as assessed by a peak flow meter
5. Allergies or signs of a cold (sneezing, runny nose, and cough)
