5 Things Regarding Dental Care That Dentists Wish You Knew

It doesn’t necessarily follow that you are free from tooth and gum issues just because your teeth and gums seem to be clean and healthy and you aren’t currently experiencing any pain. Furthermore, even if you clean and floss your teeth meticulously, you may still experience oral health problems. The five things that Dr. Surbhi Bhatia L hopes you know about dental care are listed below.

1. Be careful not to overbrush. Over-brushing can harm your gums and harm your teeth, so be careful how much stress you apply to the brush. Many of us have receding gums as a result of overly vigorous brushing. This exposes the damaged tooth’s root once more, which is weaker and more prone to damage than the tooth’s healthy crown.

2. Brushing and flossing are crucial. You should clean your teeth at least twice daily, in the morning and at night. Additionally recommended is flossing at least once each day. If you don’t take these precautions, plaque will build up on your teeth. Plaque is likely to transform into limestone, also known as calcite, if it is kept on the tooth surface for more than 24 hours.

3. Refrain from using nicotine, alcohol, and coffee. Coffee’s tannin content causes it to be famously acidic, which weakens tooth enamel and stains teeth. In addition to being common vices, tobacco and alcohol use provide a risk for oral cancer, dry mouth, tarnished and deteriorating teeth, as well as a host of other dental and oral health issues.

4. Your toothbrush has a shelf life. Toothbrushes are a breeding ground for bacteria. Make sure to replace your toothbrush every 12 weeks or so. But don’t only stick to the 12-week rule; change your brush right away if you notice it’s starting to smell or look different.

5. Your diet has a significant impact on your teeth. Lemons, pickles, and grapefruit are just a few of the unexpectedly “healthy” foods that may damage our teeth. Sugar isn’t the only item that causes tooth decay and gum disease. Due to the high acidity of these meals, tooth decay might eventually arise from the erosion of the enamel over time. On the other hand, cheese, apples, and leafy greens are some things to include in your diet that are good for your teeth.

She stresses the aforementioned ideas to maintain a beautiful and healthy smile. These precautions are frequently disregarded, which results in a trip to the dentist. However, by incorporating these routines into your life, you may maintain good dental health and a lovely smile.
