Coconut and its benefits on our body

Coconut is the fruit of the coconut palm tree with the scientific name of Cocos Nucifera. Coconuts have been growing mainly in the tropical regions for so many years but recently the plantation of coconut trees has widely grown. It had become famous because it has many uses in the culinary section, health benefits and taste. The coconut fruit provides with sweet tasty water, milk, oil and meat also locally known as Malai. The major health benefits it provides with are as follows: –

  • Rich in nutrients – Most fruits are high in carbohydrates but coconuts are full of fats. Some of the main nutrients in the coconut meat are manganese, copper, iron, potassium, protein, selenium and fibre. The fat that is found in coconut is good fat and is directly converted into energy in your intestines. It helps you reduce the excess fat in your body.
  • Helps in controlling blood sugar – The low-carb high fats and fibre feature can greatly contribute to regulating your blood sugar. Research has also concluded that coconuts have antidiabetic properties. The high fibre in coconut helps in slowing down the digestion which resists the insulin additionally regulating the blood sugar.
  • Provides strong antioxidants – Salicylic acid, gallic acid, p-coumaric acid and caffeic acid are some of the phenolic compounds found in coconut that have antioxidizing properties and prevent from cell damage. Antioxidants present in coconut oil can also prevent the damage of skin cells.
  • Keeps your heart healthy – Studies have shown that people including coconuts in their daily diet or using it in their dishes had lower rates or heart-related illnesses. Coconut oil can help reduce the belly fat which can increase the risk of heart diseases or diabetes. Eating coconuts can also improve your cholesterol level.

Seeing these benefits, you will wish to include coconut in your daily diet. However, coconuts are still high in fats and add a lot of calories to your body. You must consume it by keeping your calorie needs in check.  Coconut water can still be refreshing and reduces inner heat.
