Contact Lenses or Eyeglasses: Which is more beneficial

It is largely a matter of personal preference whether you wear eyeglasses or contact lenses for vision correction. Your decision-making process should take into account your lifestyle, comfort, convenience, budget, and aesthetics.

Keep in mind that one is not always superior to the other when it comes to vision, ease of use, and eye health. Here’s an overview of the benefits and drawbacks of each type of eyeglasses to assist you in making your decision.

CONTACT LENSES PROS AND CONS

Pros.

• Contact lenses adjust to the curve of your eye, giving you a wider field of vision and reducing vision distortions and obstacles.

• When performing sports or exercising, contact lenses do not get in the way.

• Contact lenses aren’t altered by the weather and, unlike glasses, don’t fog up in the cold.

• Color contact lenses are a great way to test how you’d look with different eye colors.

Cons.

• Some people have difficulty putting their contact lenses in their eyes (but proper technique and practice should rectify this in most cases).

• Contact lenses restrict the quantity of oxygen that reaches your eyes, which can cause or worsen dry eye conditions.

• Wearing contact lenses while working at a computer will almost certainly exacerbate the symptoms of computer vision syndrome.

• To avoid potentially dangerous eye infections, contact lenses require daily lens care and lens case cleaning. Consider daily disposables if you can’t commit to the proper care and replacement cycle for your contacts.

EYEGLASSES PROS AND CONS

Pros.

• Wearing glasses decreases the need to touch your eyes, lowering the risk of irritation or infection.

• Contact lenses can aggravate dry or sensitive eyes, but glasses won’t.

• In the long run, eyeglasses are often less expensive than contact lenses. You won’t have to replace your glasses as frequently (unless they break! ), and if your prescription changes over time, you may be able to keep your current frames and merely replace the lenses.

• Frames are trendy and can reveal a lot about your personality and style; the way you wear your glasses can make a big statement.

Cons.

• Some people dislike how glasses make them appear, believing that they disguise their features or subtract from their facial attractiveness.

• If you have a strong prescription, the borders of your lenses may be thick and unsightly, or your glasses may magnify or minify your eyes unnaturally.

• The elements can impair your vision, obstructing or blurring your vision when precipitation collects on your lenses or when they fog up in cold weather.

• Some frames might cause headaches and general discomfort by exerting persistent pressure on your nose and behind your ears.
