We all know that we need water when we are thirsty. But the significance of water is not only that much. The amount of water you drink has a huge connection with your mental health.

Studies indicate that even just a mild dehydration can have a large effect on your mood, stamina, and even your capacity to think clearly. Negative effects that occur from dehydration include degraded mood, increase in difficulty and completing tasks, poorer concentration, and signs of a headache.

There is a fact that the human brain is comprised of about 75% water. Dehydration hinders circulation, which impacts less oxygen traveling to your whole body, which includes your brain as well.

Our memory, energy, and capacity to focus can suffer when we’re dehydrated. A recent study indicates that our mental health also depends on sufficient hydration levels. Research reveals that drinking adequate water can lessen the risk of depression and anxiety.

Scientists indicate that the thirst impulse is a component of the body’s complex warning system and should not be resisted even at mild levels. Dehydration can injure cognitive function. Dehydration at extreme levels can direct to delirium, unconsciousness, and even coma.

A 2% reduction in brain hydration can arise in short-term memory loss. Extended dehydration affects brain cells to decrease in size and mass, absence of mental clarity which is sometimes implied to as “brain fog”, it is a condition common in several elderly who don’t drink sufficient water.

Our body is complicated, and we have to adopt a holistic approach to maximize our well-being. Remaining hydrated by drinking sufficient water is an easy, but important element for good physical, emotional, and mental health.
