Food habits for monsoon

As the rains start pouring outside, there’s not much we can do other than sitting inside home. But that’s not all, monsoon also calls for weird food cravings!! Let’s see what type of food is safe to consume during monsoon.

We have to be on our toes during monsoon because it brings along higher possibility to transfer airborne and water-borne diseases. It’s recommended consuming food and water indoors only, as the spread of germs is scarce inside. Consuming untreated water outside can lead to diseases like cholera, diarrhoea, typhoid etc. The most adequate option is to drink warm boiled water.

Talking about food, we all crave for panipuri in monsoon, especially ladies!!! However outdoor cart vendors lack proper sanity and must be avoided. It goes without saying the fruits and vegetables should be thoroughly washed before eating, especially leafy vegetables. Dry-type of food should be preferred, for example, corn, oats, chana, etc.  Also, roasted food is safer than fried. It kills bacteria, and also allows us an oil-free meal, which is good for health.

Food to be avoided – Dairy products like milk, curd, shrikhand must be avoided since it may carry more germs than usual. Food that tastes sour must not be consumed, for example, tamarind, spicy chutneys, pickles as it dehydrates our body. Distance yourself from eating cooked refrigerated food unless it is reheated.

It’s a different thing eating without care in summer and monsoon. It sure is tempting to go for tasty food, but caution is required as our body is more prone to illness in monsoon, especially intestinal and digestive disorders. Stick to this plan and you should be fit and healthy for the arriving winters.
