Every individual has a cellphone with him, even the kids above the age of 16 carry one. This is why smartphones are estimated to be the biggest contributor to carbon in the coming years. Not just the environment, mobile phones highly affect the individuals who are using it, mobile addicts in particular. Some people are so addicted to their cellphones that they constantly require it by their side. They check it before sleeping and the first thing as they wake up. Undoubtedly smartphones have become an irresistible part of our life. And with time, the effects of smartphones are only getting worse and worse day by day.
Talking about the environment, cellphones don’t consume a lot of energy to operate but their production causes huge damage to the environment. Smartphones require expensive mined metals to be produced. Its motherboard and circuits consist of semiconductors that have a short shelf-life and add to more waste after you dispose of your one mobile for a new one. To add more, smartphones constantly require network and internet. Telecommunications and data servers require a huge amount of energy to able to serve you. This energy is mostly coming from the electricity produced by fossils. This is the energy consumption that we ignore. The electromagnetic radiations released from the cellphone towers also harm tiny birds and insects. This is just a little part of how cellphones are affecting the environment.
Mobiles communicate on the basis of (RF) radiofrequency radiation. The constant interference of this radiation with your body will increase your body temperature since it has thermal effects. It can also create problems like headache and brain tumour. In May 2011, the World Health Organization declared that RF radiation is carcinogenic for humans and increases the risk of brain cancer. Apart from these direct effects of mobiles, we are also affected indirectly with abusive use of mobiles. Looking in your phone requires you to keep your head tilted downwards all the time. This increases the strain on the neck and spinal cord. You also find it difficult to focus on other important things like studies or work if you become addicted to mobiles. One shall never forget that mobile phones are supposed to make our life easier, not difficult. If your life is still not easier, you should change your perspective of using mobile phones.
