Is it Safe to Ride a Scooter While Pregnant?

Two-wheelers like motorcycles, scooters, and bikes, as well as three-wheelers like automobiles or rickshaws, are frequently less safe than four-wheelers or public transit like buses, trains, or metros since you are more susceptible to injury.

Riding a motorcycle when pregnant

Due to several negative effects of pregnancy, riding or operating a two-wheeler is not advised. Early in pregnancy, maintaining balance or paying attention while driving may be difficult due to nausea, sleepiness, and dizziness. Your center of gravity changes and your joints loosen as your pregnancy progresses, making it more challenging to balance and handle your motorbike or scooter.

It is dangerous to ride on a two-wheeler when pregnant, especially if you sit with both of your feet on one side. Even if you continued riding a two-wheeler during your first trimester, physicians advise against doing so from mid-pregnancy on. You should never attempt to ride a motorcycle while you are giving birth since it might endanger both your health and the health of your unborn child.

Traveling by auto or rikshaw during pregnancy

When traveling by auto or rickshaw during pregnancy, it is important to use them as sparingly as possible. They also travel on the same roads as cars, trucks, and buses that go faster and have a stronger build, making them more vulnerable to injury.

To ensure safety, ask the driver before getting in. Because three-wheeled cars lack standard safety measures including a seat belt, suspension, an airbag, and open doors, they are less secure than four-wheeled vehicles. Try to use autos and rickshaws only for short trips. If possible, plan your outing outside of peak traffic times and use a face mask to protect yourself from pollution, dust, and unpleasant smells. Carry water and hold on tight to the handlebars.

Alternatives to two and three-wheel transportation in pregnancy

If you’re looking for other ways of getting around, you could try to: Arrange a carpool.
Use public transport.
Rely more on home deliveries where possible to reduce your need to go out.
Check with your office if you can work from home for a few days a week.
See if you can share a cab with colleagues.
