Physical And Mental Health: The Connection

It’s easy to get health advice, yet a lot of it solely addresses the physical body. Physical and mental health are more closely related than previously thought, experts are discovering as they continue to look into what factors affect our health. A person will suffer if their mental or physical health is out of balance.

Making wise decisions for your health and the health of the kids in your care becomes easier when you understand how our bodies and brains interact with one another.

The well-being of a person on an emotional, social, and psychological level is referred to by the wide term of mental health. The way that someone acts, processes emotions, and makes decisions is greatly influenced by their mental health.

One aspect of overall well-being is physical health. The phrase describes the condition of your physical body and how well it is functioning, taking into account everything from the absence of sickness to your degree of fitness. We frequently place considerably more emphasis on physical health than mental health when it comes to children and teens. Children’s physical health is something that parents and guardians put a lot of effort into promoting, yet they might not fully understand. There are two main aspects to physical wellness.

1. Nutrition

Everyone needs to eat well, but developing bodies require more nutrients than normal. The appropriate proportions of protein and carbs, as well as a variety of vitamins and minerals, are necessary for physical health.

2. Activity

Making sure children engage in enough physical activity is getting harder. Children and teens are becoming increasingly sedentary as a result of the development of screens in all facets of life. The majority of kids don’t even come close to the 60 minutes of physical exercise per day recommended by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for youngsters ages 6 to 17.
