Signs To Break Up With Your Therapist When Things Don’t Work Out

When you’re in a bad mood, the last thing you want to think about is dumping your therapist. Things don’t always work out in a relationship, just like they don’t in any other.

Therapists offer the following instances in which it’s time to call it quits:

1. You are dissatisfied after each session

After meeting with your psychologist, it’s normal for your emotions to be all over the place—this is therapy, after all. However, if you feel like you didn’t get what you needed, are confused, or appear especially unhappy after each meeting, it could be a warning flag.

2. It doesn’t seem like the suggestion is correct

True, your therapist is an expert, and you’ll have to learn to believe what he or she says. This is a significant deciding factor if you frequently disagree or feel resentful about the person’s views. The psychologist’s suggestions should not detract from your treatment.

3. Flakiness is one of your therapist’s hallmarks

Dating isn’t the only place where bad behavior is acceptable. Regrettably, it can also occur in the workplace. Therefore, if the therapist is always late for appointments, cancels at the last moment, keeps an untidy office, or takes phone calls during your session, you might be able to find a better connection with someone else.

4. You’re having difficulty communicating

It’s critical to be able to communicate with one another. You want someone who knows when to probe and when to listen. If your therapist talks too much or hardly at all, it’s a red flag. Your psychologist should give importance to your goals for therapy and be able to interact with you so that you can achieve goals.

5. You get the impression that you’re being judged

You should never feel ashamed or embarrassed about what you bring up in therapy. Say goodbye to your therapist if you get the impression that he or she is being flippant or snarky about your predicament.
