Heat shouldn’t be applied within three days of having sore muscles. Initially, it is recommended to apply an ice pack to your sore muscle for at least three days in a row and then start applying heat. Heat increases blood flow in that area and the increased blood flow helps to treat the muscles on their own. The oxygen in the blood also helps to regain the movement of muscles as before.
