Breast calcification is calcium deposits that develop in the breast tissue of women. They appear as white spots on a mammogram. They are very common in women. Although breast calcification is usually benign, certain patterns such as irregular shapes or tight clusters may lead to breast cancer. Breast lumps of different types affect women. Some are harmful, and most of them are entirely harmless.
Most of the time, aging is considered the main problem of breast calcification—the risk increases as age increases. The causes can be cell secretions, breast surgery, any previous injury, breast cancer, inflammation due to infection, prior therapy for breast cancer
Diagnosis of breast calcification- Regular self-examination can help to identify any harder areas in your breast. As the size of the calcification is small, it can be diagnosed through mammography.
Most of the calcification does not need any treatment because they dissolve and go away. As their sizes are small, they cannot be felt. So this calcification is found in a mammogram.
Even if there is no treatment, regular checkups should be done to see if there are any changes.
Though most of the calcification can be classified as benign, some of them can be detected as cancerous, so treatment can be the same as cancer, which can be surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy.
And to prevent oneself, an individual should consume a proper diet, do regular exercise, do a regular health checkup.
