Vertigo is a sensation which makes you feel that the environment around you is moving or spinning. It can either be unnoticeable or be so severe that you’d find it difficult to retain your balance. Vertigo occurs when there is some problem with the inner ear, brain or sensory nerve pathway. However, it is just a symptom and not an illness.
Vertigo develops suddenly and can last for a few seconds or a little longer. In case of severe vertigo, symptoms are constant and lasts for several days which makes everyday life difficult. Vertigo can make you lose your balance which makes it difficult to stand or walk, you are likely to feel or be sick and experience dizziness.
This is a symptom of a range of conditions and is common in people who are above the age of 65 years. It is a symptom of ear infection and can occur during pregnancy. People with Méniére’s disease, an inner ear disorder, are likely to experience vertigo. Some of the symptoms of vertigo are they cause balance problems and lightheadedness.
You tend to develop a sense of motion sickness, nausea and vomiting. Another symptom of vertigo is that you’d experience ringing in the ear which is referred to as tinnitus and along with it you’d also feel fullness in the ear followed by a headache.
It also leads to nystagmus where the eyes move from side to side uncontrollably.
It is recommended to seek medical help to relieve your vertigo.
