The early stage of development of an animal when it is in the egg or within the uterus of the mother is the embryo. This term is used in humans to the unborn child till the seventh week from conception. The unborn is referred to as a fetus from the eighth week.
Humans and other mammals are developed and grow inside their mother’s womb. A human baby grows and develops inside the mother for around nine months before they are born. While they still are in the uterus, they undergo various stages which start with a single cell that eventually grows into an embryo and then a fetus.
Humans start with a single fertilized egg called the zygote and this fertilization occurs when a female egg comes in contact with male sperm. We were so tiny, that one would require a microscope to see it. After fertilization, the stages of development begin and in the first stages, the tiny cell converts to an embryo. The unborn baby is referred to as an embryo for eight weeks from fertilization.
The transformation from a zygote to an embryo is about division which is known as cell division. The tubes that connect female ovaries with the uterus are called uterine tubes where the fertilization takes place. The eggs come from the ovaries and the embryo implants itself in the uterus. An embryo is just a tiny group of cells when it comes into the uterus.
It settles in the uterus because the tiny embryo requires a place to rest and grow.
