The lifelong disease where the sugar or glucose levels keep on rising in your bloodstream is known as diabetes. The insulin hormone moves the glucose from your body to the cells and is used as an energy.
Type 2 is a type of diabetes where your cells fail to respond to the insulin as they should. In further stages, they may even stop producing enough insulin.
When type 2 diabetes is uncontrolled, it leads to high blood glucose levels and causes various severe symptoms and can lead to complications.
Symptoms
Since your body fails to use insulin to provide glucose to the cell, it takes up energy from other sources such as tissues, organs and muscles.
The symptoms develop slowly. They include:
· Drained energy
· Continuous feeling of hunger
· Fatigue
· Dry mouth
· Weight loss
· Feeling thirsty
· Frequent need to urinate
· Itchy skin
· Blurry vision
With high glucose levels, the symptoms are:
· Slow healing of cuts and wounds
· Foot pain
· Infection of yeast
· Acanthosis nigricans condition
· Neuropathy or feeling of numbness in extremities
Causes
Pancreas produces the insulin hormone and releases it when you eat. Your body becomes resistant to insulin when you have type 2 diabetes. They do not use the hormone efficiently. It enables your pancreas to work harder than normal to produce more insulin.
Eventually, it damages the cells in your pancreas and fails to produce any insulin. This leads to a build up of glucose in your bloodstream and leaves your body’s cells starved for energy.
