What is veganism?

According to Wikipedia, Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. The people who follow veganism are called vegans are most strict vegetarians, who refuse to eat any sort of animal products including dairy. There are two reasons behind being vegan, the first one is as a part of the diet and the second one is as a part of belief. Many vegans are against animal cruelty and abuse and hence refuse to eat their produce.

What do they eat?

There’s a common myth or people joke around that vegans have nothing to eat, however, there are many things and many options for a vegan to eat. They can easily replace meat and milk with other plant-based options.

Vegans particular have following options to eat

· Beans

· Vegetables

· Almond milk

· Seeds

· Nuts

· Grains

· Lentils

· Tofu

· Maple syrup replacing honey

There were already many food options that were vegan like tomato pizza, nachos, veggie burger, smoothie etc. Vegans can still consume these options. As the popularity of veganism is growing. Many food outlets are coming up with vegan food dishes.

Is being vegan healthy?

Some people also choose veganism for its wonderful health effects.A vegan diet is said to reduce risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, premature death etc.

Lowering consumption of meat and milk products reduce your fat intake and lowering levels of cholesterol. Therefore, it’s very beneficial for good heart health and weight loss.

Avoiding eating meat also avoids the consumption of antibiotics and hormones used to grow these animals. Therefore it helps in keeping our body safe from the side effects of these chemicals.

Thus, being vegan is definitely beneficial and can help a lot in improving your health and maintaining fitness.
