What to eat when constipated? 6 foods to improve your gut health

A healthy gut is responsible for our overall health. It is considered as our second brain because it provides all the nutrients to our brain which helps it function properly. Bad gut health can lead to many health issues one of them being constipation. So here are some foods that will help you improve your gut health.

· Water

The main reason why you get constipation is dehydration. Dehydration can make the waste in the invest in stuck and lead to constipation. Drinking lots of water can keep you hydrated and your gut clean. Try to drink at least 2 litres of water daily to keep everything flowing naturally.

· Yoghurt

Yoghurt is a valuable food to treat constipation. Yoghurt and kefir, both contain good bacteria called probiotics. These bacteria are said to break down the food that you eat. Thus, it helps in digestion and release by keeping your gut healthy.

· Prunes

Prunes are the dried plums. These dried fruits are full of fibre and are considered king food when it comes to keep you regular with cleaning your gut.

Prunes also contain a type of sugar called sorbitol which improves your bowel movement. If you have no idea what to eat when you have constipation, prunes can come to your rescue.

· Spinach and other greens

Spinach, broccoli and other green leafy vegetables are rich in fibre, they also contain vitamin k, vitamin C and folate. These greens, therefore, add bulk to your stools and make them easier to pass.

· Chia seeds

Chia seeds are rich in omega-3, fatty acids, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium. When they are combined with water they form a lubricating gel-like substance around them, which helps the stool to pass easily, by keeping them moist. The fatty acids are highly anti-inflammatory and can treat the irritated gut.

· Beans, lentils and peas

These pulses are said to be rich in fibre and must be included in your diet. When you are confused with what to eat, don’t hesitate in including these pulses in your diet. They are good at treating and preventing constipation.

They are also rich with nutrients like zinc, potassium, magnesium etc. That helps to keep your gut healthy.
