The first thing we all do after waking up is get fresh. Apart from all other things one activity remains constant and we do it without fail. That is brushing your teeth. And the end goal of this is not to get rid of the nasty breath we obtain throughout the night but to take genuine care of our teeth. When you brush your teeth, you help remove food and plaque; a sticky white film that forms on your teeth while we sleep and accommodates bacteria. We all must have seen various people do impossible things with their teeth. That is all possible because they take good care of their teeth.
After you consume your dinner or lunch or any other food that contains sugar, the bacteria in plaque produce acids that attack tooth enamel. Tooth enamel is the outermost layer of our tooth that protects the tooth from decay. It is the first line of defence against the cavity and is said to be the hardest mineral of our body. Imagine your teeth’s only protection melting away only because you were too lazy to brush. Brushing after thirty minutes of eating can reduce the speed of the bacteria formation of the teeth. The bacteria feast on food particles, particularly glucose, releasing acids that advance tooth decaying. All this can be simply avoided by brushing twice a day.
Once after you wake up and once before you go to bed. Most people brush only once because it feels unnecessary to do it twice. After we go to bed without brushing the real attack of bacteria begins. Hence brushing twice is recommended by every dentist. Also do not go overboard. Overbrushing can hurt the gums. It can also shrink the enamel layer on our teeth.
