Nawazuddin Siddiqui, a born Indian film actor is from Budhana a small town in Uttar Pradesh. He graduated in science in a local college and worked as a chemist in a petrochemical company for some time.
When he moved to Delhi, he worked as a watchman at an office. Later, he got into Sakshi Theatre Group and acted alongside Manoj Bajpai and Saurabh Shukla while graduating from The National School of Drama.
To try his luck, Nawazuddin moved to Mumbai and made his first Bollywood debut in the film Sarfarosh after struggling a lot to find work. Despite his good performance in the debut, he remained unnoticed and continued with short roles.
For 2 to 3years, he was out of work and struggled a lot with his acting career. Anurag Kashyap’s Black Friday (2007) was a step towards a bright future.
Nawazuddin’s first lead role movie was Prashant Bhargava’s PATANG that premiered at Berlin Film Festival and received praise from Roger Ebert.
He received the recognition of an actor after playing the role of a journalist in Aamir Khan Production’s Peepli Live (2010). Gang of Wasseypur further gained him more fame in the Bollywood industry. It was a career defining film for Nawazuddin.
He is well-known for his roles in The Lunchbox (2013) and Manto (2018), for which won him the Best Actor at the 2018 Asian Pacific Screen Award.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the only actor in India who got his 8 films nominated and screened at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Recently, for his Sacred Games series he was awarded The Lesley Ho Asian Film Talent Award at the Singapore International Film Festival.
