To help you along your 2022 reading adventure, we’ve compiled a list of 5 books that RM has either cited, mentioned in an interview or Livestream, or simply been caught reading. It’s a new year, and it’s time to make 2022 ours. Every January, many of us add reading to our list of resolutions, so we thought we’d give you a little extra incentive to adhere to your goal this year. BTS’ RM is your (unofficial) reading partner for 2022! It’s no secret that BTS’s leader RM enjoys reading, and as readers do, he’s frequently shared novels he’s enjoyed in livestreams and interviews. RM is a true bookworm, and we frequently see him holding one. He has also mentioned books that have inspired him in his lyrics!
1. The Stranger by Albert Camus
Albert Camus’ novella The Stranger was first published in French in 1942. It follows the protagonist as he struggles with his inability to experience the emotions that society expects of him.
2. The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas by Ursula K.Le Guin
This short story offers a striking depiction of a seemingly flawless city and the dangers that lurk beneath its surface. This philosophical story’s title refers to individuals who choose to leave this utopia, unwilling to participate in or overlook these tragedies.
3. Almond by Won Pyung Sohn
A youngster born with Alexithymia, a brain disorder that makes it difficult for him to feel emotions, and another who is unable to regulate his, form an unexpected connection, drawn to each other by mutual curiosity.
4. Demian: The Story of Emil Sinclair’s Youth by Hermann Hesse
This 1919 Bildungsroman follows Emil’s perplexity from his formative years to maturity, as well as his bond with a mysterious classmate and mentor, Demian.
5. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
This classic story, first published in 1943, is about a stranded aviator who encounters a young prince who travels from planet to planet in search of knowledge.
