Many of our country’s leaders paved the way for us to succeed, but don’t overlook the path they took. It is always thorny and never full of roses. For an entrepreneur, this is especially true. An entrepreneur picks the difficult path rather than the easy one, with the goal of emerging powerful enough to astonish everyone.
Sandeep Aggarwal is one of India’s most successful start-up entrepreneurs, having developed two billion-dollar businesses in the country, as well as serving as an inspiration to millions of aspiring entrepreneurs. Sandeep Aggarwal, the founder of two e-commerce startups, Droom and ShopClues, chronicles his “roller-coaster” journey in the autobiography “Fall Again, Rise Again.” The book has been described as an intimate and emotional autobiography of one of India’s most successful start-up founders.
Aggarwal, a former top-ranked Wall Street analyst, co-founded ShopClues in 2011 and launched Droom, an online vehicle marketplace in 2014. Droom claims to be India’s largest pure play online vehicle marketplace, with an 80% market share in online automobile transactions.
However, success did not come without its own set of ups and downs. He had to resign as CEO of ShopClues in 2015 after being sued by the US Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) in July 2013 for allegedly engaging in insider trading.
ShopClues, one of the most promising start-ups, was sold to Singapore’s e-commerce giant Qoo10 last year after a series of problems, including the fall-out between its co-founders Radhika and Sandeep. The US government dropped all criminal allegations against Aggarwal in February, while the Securities and Exchange Commission settled all civil accusations.
Aggarwal’s narrative is that of a middle-class youngster who dreamed of making it big one day, only to have his ambitions shattered by insider trading accusations in the United States, only to rise like a phoenix to found yet another company. Sandeep’s emotional strength and frankness will move and inspire you in ways that are quite rare.
