Hima Das is a sprinter who hails from Assam, India. The young sprinter was born to rice-growing farmers in Assam. The financial conditions at home did not make it easy for young Hima to enter the field of athletics. However, Hima Das was determined that she was to achieve her dream to become an athlete. Her focus and motivation kept her going. As per drillers. com reports, Hima Das initially wanted to be a football player. She was a part of her school football team. However, Hima Das realized her hidden potential through Shamsul Haque who was a PE trainer at Jawahar Navodaya Vidhayala. The trainer inspired her to become a track athlete and began training Hima. Eventually, Hima Das started participating in district-level short and middle-distance races. Hima made everyone proud when she won all the competitions she had participated in and this inspired and motivated her further.
She consulted an athletics coach named Nipun Das from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Welfare. The coach provided her with professional training. Her coach was her greatest supporter and her constant motivator which helped her get promoted closer to her dream. Hima was selected for state-level athletics and soon started gaining much-deserved recognition. Hima participated in various races including 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and with each race, she was persistent and kept improving her finishing time.
According to drillers. com reports, Hima Das clocked 51.32 seconds in Gold Coast and set a record under Indian U-20. Hima Das wrote history in the field of athletics by winning a gold medal for 400 meters in World U-20 Championship in 2018 clocking a speed of 51.46 seconds. This was the first time ever anyone from India won a gold medal in a global track event. Hima made Indians proud with her achievement and set an inspiration for millions of women. As per Business Standard reports, she was awarded the Arjuna Award in September 2018 by the President of India.
As per Career India reports, Hima Das Hima yet again made us proud by winning a gold medal at the Indian Grand Prix II in Women’s 200 m with the timing of 23.31 seconds in February 2021.
