We may be the only animal species to celebrate a special day dedicated to all the mothers around the globe. But for other animals, every single day of their life is a Mother’s Day. The distinguished maternal instinct among some of the animal species is equal or even greater than ours in some cases. An elephant mother is known to carry her child for at least two years before giving birth to it. They care and nurture they’re newborn with all the love and affection and teach them the basic living skills. But not all elephants are fortunate enough to be jolly or get their mothers to love. Some elephant’s mothers fall into the trap of illegal poaching and wildlife hunting leaving their orphan behind to face the challenges of the cruel world. Some survive and some become the prey. Here’s why elephant mothers are the best among all other animals: –
- An elephant newborn gains up to two pounds of weight every day after their birth. Mothers change their milk production 4 times daily to meet the nutritional needs of their child. They also feed on anti-inflammatory leaves or plants to help their kid with growing their teeth which can be painful for them.
- Elephant mothers are the best teachers in nature. They effectively teach their kids to eat proper food and make them familiar with formations to deal with predators. They hide their kids in the middle and surround them making it difficult for lions or tigers to hunt on their child.
- Elephant matriarchs are the wisest and the best leaders. The oldest of strongest female elephant can potentially lead the group towards places with good food and harmony, and also take the herd through the drought or difficult situation. During summers, they are the only potential individuals in the group to lead the group towards a source of water.
