Animals, like humans, have inherent worth and value that we should respect and acknowledge. Here are some significant lessons that animals can teach us to reorganize our thinking about them.
African wild dogs are the most successful hunters in the animal kingdom. Why? Teamwork. They hunt in formation, rest when they’re exhausted, then work together to bring down and share their next food. It’s brutal, but it works. During the stalking phase, wild dogs use a series of high-pitched barks to communicate with one another. They achieve a lot more when they work collectively rather than separately.
The capacity of a leopard to remain calm throughout a hunt is extraordinary. The build-up to the ultimate ambush might go all night! Leopards stalk silently, pacing slowly with their paws down to avoid making any noise. Then, when the moment is right, they charge forward with ferocity to capture their victim. We might probably learn not to be so impatient in a world where logging into our PCs takes six seconds.
Someone who is resourceful and views failure as a learning experience rather than a setback. Our circumstances are always changing, and we must adapt to succeed. Mother Nature, on the other hand, does not conform to human desires.
The desert-adapted black rhino, which can be found in the arid areas of the Namib Desert, is an excellent example of species adapting to its surroundings. They are nocturnal to avoid the heat of the day, have longer horns to aid foraging, and only need to drink water once every four days, significantly less than their savannah-bound cousins.
When we achieve one objective, the human condition pushes us to look for the next one, and we ruminate on past failures as if there is something we can do about it right now. It’s past time for us to learn to slow down and appreciate the current moment.
When you look at any animal, especially a newborn animal, all they can think about is their present meal or investigating that very interesting pebble. After all, what happened yesterday has already occurred, and what will occur tomorrow has not yet occurred.
