Ratan Tata, a philanthropist was born in Mumbai, India and is related to the founder of Tata group, Jamshedji Tata who was the husband of his maternal grandmother, Hirabai Tata. At the age of 10 years old, his parents got separated so he was raised by his grandmother.
Although Ratan Tata was born with a golden spoon, he proved himself as a great leader and a business owner.
According to Seowebfirm reports, he finished his schooling in Mumbai and later on, in 1962 went to New York’s Cornell University to excel in architecture and structural engineering. Upon his return, Ratan Tata joined the Tata group. In the 1970s, he was promoted to management in the Tata group and was able to turn the Group company National Radio and Electronics around. However, during the economic turmoil it collapsed.
In 1991, he was appointed as the Chairman of Tata industry after working for Tata Motors and Tata Steel. Ratan Tata is a true visionary man who cut down the number of companies from 300 in order to invest in the growing businesses and which also showed its potential.
He created large revenues by turning around various companies under his supervision. Tata group ventured from salt to software to 100 billion$ group under the leadership of Ratan Tata.
In 2004, Tata Motors gained Daewoo Commercial Vehicles, a Korean Company, which was the biggest take-over and in the year 2007, Ratan Tata acquired an Anglo-dutch steel maker, Corus. Tata-Corus made him the fifth largest steel maker in the world.
