Johnny Lever, as we all know, is an Indian film actor who has always made us chuckle anytime he has acted. He is regarded as the industry’s first standup comedian and one of the most skilled comedy actors. Many people are unaware that Johnny Lever was born to a Telugu Christian family in the middle class, and that his birth name was John Rao. The iconic actor has gone through many hurdles to become a known name in the industry. Jonny Lever dropped out of school and began working odd jobs such as selling pens on the streets of Mumbai and dancing to Bollywood stars’ songs.
He stayed in Yakutpura, Hyderabad’s ancient city, for a while where he learned his distinct performing style in comedy.
Johnny’s father began bringing him to work at HUL.
To his astonishment, his son became recognized among his coworkers for his mimicking talents rather than his work.
This secret skill required a stage, which he found at the company’s annual celebration, where he imitated prominent HUL officials.
The positive answer strengthened Johnny’s confidence and encouraged him to work harder to realize his dream. Opportunities for stand-up comedy events began to flood in soon after. His fame increased by leaps and bounds, and he finally quit his job after six years to pursue a career as a full-time comic in 1981. As a result of his stand-up comedy shows in orchestras, he grew in popularity.
‘ Tum Par Hum Qurban’ gave Johnny his first break in the profession.
During the filming of this film, actor-director Sunil Dutt noticed his potential and offered him a role in his 1982 film, “Dard Ka Rishta.”
Johnny Lever has appeared in almost 350 films since then, including Jalwa, Tezaab, Kasam, Kishen Kanhaiya, Baazigar, Khiladi, Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, and others.
Despite their status as supporting roles, his roles have become timeless due to his remarkable comic timing.
