1. Jim Carrey
We all know Jim Carrey as a crazy comedian who has produced some of the highest-grossing comedies of all time, including The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and Ace Ventura. But not everyone is familiar with Carrey’s story. He grew up in a low-income family with a father who struggled to hold down a job. They were so impoverished that he had to drop out of high school at the age of 15 and work as a janitor to support the family. He was booed off stage during his debut hilarious stand-up performance at Toronto’s Yuk Yuk’s.
2. J.K. Rowling
Rowling is one of our generation’s most inspiring success stories. Many people only know her as the creator of Harry Potter. What most people don’t know is what she went through before becoming famous. Rowling’s life was not all sunshine and roses. She struggled greatly. Rowling had the concept for Harry Potter around 1990. She claimed that the concept came to her “completely formed” one day on a train from Manchester to London. She started writing furiously. However, her mother died later that year after suffering from Multiple Sclerosis for ten years.
3. Bill Gates
Bill Gates failed in business before founding Microsoft. Bill Gates’ upper-middle-class family is a dramatic contrast to some of the other successful failures who did not have well-off parents. He is currently known as one of the wealthiest individuals in the world. Bill Gates, on the other hand, did not rely on his family. His business skills were unrivalled. His first venture, however, was a failure. Gates, Paul Gilbert, and Paul Allen collaborated on Traf-O-Data. The company’s purpose was to provide reports for highway engineers using raw traffic data.
