4 Key Differences Between Apprenticeship And Internship

Internships and apprenticeships both provide hands-on training, but the similarities end there.

An internship is a professional learning opportunity that provides students with meaningful, hands-on work in their field of study or career interest. It allows a student to gain new skills while also exploring and developing their profession.

Apprenticeship is a type of job training that entails working alongside and learning from a master of the craft rather than attending school. Apprenticeships are common for carpenters, masons, surgeons, and a variety of other vocations.

Differences:

1. Concept

Apprenticeship is similar to working in a job. After you secure a position, you will be trained on what you will do in the workplace. As a result, you’ll have the first-hand experience with all of the responsibilities you’ll be responsible for.

Internship, on the other hand, is learning how things work in the real world. You just gain practical experience with what you learned at college or university. This gives you an insight into that career and allows you to explore your choices.

2. Term

Internships last for a shorter period of time than apprenticeships. Most companies engage trainees or apprentices for a period of one to two years all throughout the world. While the majority of internships last a few months, some may last a few weeks.

3. Training

Interns do not have access to pre-planned training as apprentices do. Due to the fact that apprentices spend a significant amount of time with the company, companies provide well-structured training programs for them.

Internships, on the other hand, are less rigid and consistent. They do not have access to pre-planned training.

4. Educational qualifications

Apprenticeships are available to a wide range of students, including 10+2 graduates, diploma holders, graduates, and students who have completed training in their specific trades.

Internships, on the other hand, are typically undertaken by college students during their vacations to get experience in a field similar to the subject they are pursuing.
