To be able to answer the question appropriately you must first evaluate the value you will bring to the company. Invest time in yourself to find out your strengths and weaknesses. How you can use your strength for improving the company? How your skills are useful for the company? You must consider all these points before deciding the value of yourself.
Setting your boundaries means identifying the traits of the company and deciding which of them are acceptable for you and which of them are not. Getting paid with a high salary is good but what if it costs you giving up on your personal boundaries? Concentrating on your requirements from the company will help you decide the salary you should ask for. If the organisation is going to make you work for 60 hours a week then you must probably ask for more money.
If you are asked about the salary requirements at the beginning of the interview try to avoid the question by saying I’ll first like to know more about my job description and work style. If they still insist then you can give a range between the minimum you expect and the maximum you should get.
Do research about the salary paid for similar jobs in the market. You must know what other companies are paying and what this company is paying to their employees to have a clear idea about how much your range should be.
If the company doesn’t agree with the range or amount you’ve suggested, you must try to negotiate with the interviewers. Having good negotiating skills will help you get a good salary. Don’t agree with something less than you deserve. Make sure you are being paid or compensated according to your value.
