Psychologists are mental health experts with higher degrees in psychology. Most of them who practice as clinical psychologists have either a Ph.D. or a PsyD.
Just like other types of therapists, psychologists also utilize different strategies when working with clients and embrace several psychotherapeutic philosophies.
The therapist normally provides counseling or psychotherapy to their clients. Therapy can generally be the process of meeting and discussing with clients to help them resolve their disturbing emotions, beliefs, behaviors and relationship problems, and somatic responses in the body.
A therapist’s role and duties can include interviewing, examining, and analyzing clients through conversation, to find solutions to difficulties, problems, and crises that a client may be facing in their everyday life.
Whereas the duty of the clinical psychologist is to provide diagnosing and treatment.
Even though a clinical psychologist and a therapist both have practice and experience working with mental health clients, some of the main differences set these two careers apart. The differences are as follows:
Clinical psychologists are expected to complete at least a master’s degree and certifications in their area of study. Therapists may start their careers after receiving a bachelor’s degree.
Clinical psychologists must receive licensure at the state and sometimes national level. Therapists may receive licensure to practice, but it depends on different states, they may require or they may not so they may not be required as frequently as a clinical psychologist.
Clinical psychologists may utilize a variation of research-backed and scientific strategies to assess, examine, diagnose, and deal with mental and behavioral health diseases. Therapists normally use a psychological approach by using talk therapy, Socratic quizzing, and other oral communication to support the clients to work through their difficulties, rather than diagnose.
