The United Arab Emirates is, without a doubt, one of the hottest (literally) places to teach English in the world. With this young country’s expanding economy and tourism, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to teach English to Emiratis and other visitors. Is it, however, safe to teach in Dubai? Yes, teaching and living in the UAE is completely safe! It is the world’s second safest country. Don’t be fooled by the terrifying news from the country’s neighbours. Even though the UAE has a diversified society as a result of the large influx of ex-pats, it remains an Islamic republic. Its inhabitants are generally helpful and welcoming. However, to have a pleasant and safe stay, you must first learn about the traditions and culture of the country.
Teaching Requirements in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
In the United Arab Emirates, different schools have different criteria. If you want to teach in one of the country’s best schools, you’ll need to have the following qualifications:
Teaching licence TEFL or teaching certificates Master’s or Bachelor’s degree (attested, if earned outside the UAE)
At least two to three years of experience
UAE’s medical fitness report
a criminal background check
You will be required to have a bachelor’s degree rather than a master’s degree for midrange colleges, and your experience will differ slightly. Having a CELTA or an Online TEFL certification to demonstrate your legitimacy to teach English in a classroom environment is always a plus.
Most schools in Dubai prefer instructors who have at least a bachelor’s degree, while some prefer teachers who have a bachelor’s degree in the subject they would be teaching. A teaching licence, TEFL certificate, and/or teaching experience are also required. Some institutions in other emirates, on the other hand, will hire teachers with only an undergraduate degree if they are TEFL certified (CELTA or TESOL Online). The UAE Ministry of Education establishes the standards for a bachelor’s degree and teaching certificates to meet the visa requirements for teaching jobs. It is highly suggested that you obtain a TESOL, CELTA, or TEFL qualification before applying for teaching positions in the UAE.
